A live Emergency Response Team training exercise is taking place Thursday.
It’s through a partnership with School District 57, with Duchess Park Secondary hosting.
The training will be from from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at 747 Winnipeg Street.
During the live exercise residents and businesses in the area can expect to see a large police presence (both uniformed and plain clothes officers) with various types of police vehicles parked on site.
Those in the area may hear pops, loud bangs, yelling and screaming. Police are advising the public in advance of this training, so they do not become alarmed at the police presence and the noise.
Signage will be posted around the venue for the duration of the training.
“This training is being conducted to simulate an active threat situation and will be quite dynamic. This is a controlled training exercise, though we will be using live actors to enhance the realism of the situation. We are respectfully requesting that people do not approach the venue or the officers as it would interfere with the value of the training,” stated Corporal Jennifer Cooper, Media Relations Officer for Prince George RCMP.
