Northern RCMP officers take part in training exercise at P.G. high school

In partnership with School District 57, RCMP officers took part in training at Duchess Park Secondary School this afternoon (Thursday).

The scenario based training is to simulate an active threat situation, with live actors playing as suspects or victims to enhance the realism of the situation and heighten the dynamics of the training.

Corporal Jennifer Cooper said training events like these provide feedback for situations they may not get from dry static training.

“It helps to prepare us for what that’s going to be like, as well as provide us with the muscle memory to be dealing with that sort of input and that level of chaos for a lack of a better word.”

Front-line policing, street crew unit, general investigative section, and problem oriented and downtown safety unit took part in the training alongside the hosting Emergency Response Team.

Cooper said this is something that the North District Emergency Response Team was willing to help out and host, inviting the P.G. RCMP.

She said any training that goes beyond B.C. Policing standard is something they will always focus on, not only to keep officers fresh and ready, but enhance public safety.
