Province launches funding for northern community shuttle services

Passenger shuttle operators serving the northern and central regions are able to apply for up to $75,000 in provincial dollars.

It’s through the Northern Community Shuttle Program to help support transportation services in rural and remote areas.

The money covers costs such as fuel, wages, insurance and maintenance. It also supports access to health care, employment, and education.

“For more than five years, Northern Development has been active in supporting passenger transportation by administering the Northern Passenger Transportation Service funding program on behalf of the Province of B.C.,” said Ben Campbell, CEO, Northern Development.

“Opening up the Northern Community Shuttle program to allow operators to access a $75,000 grant is an excellent opportunity to support organizations who are providing vital connections throughout the North. At a time when operating costs are tight, we’re pleased to provide some financial relief.”

Applications opened yesterday (Monday) and will be accepted until September 16th.

Funding decision’s will be made in November, with groups receiving support for services delivered between April 1st of 2027 and March 31st of 2028.
