Less than a week after leaving the B.C Conservatives, Prince George-Valemount MLA Rosalyn Bird has made her next move.
Bird is joining former Conservatives Peter Milobar, Ian Paton, Bruce Banman and A’A:liya Warbus into a new provincial party, bringing their seats in the legislature to five.
“We’re building on the momentum Peter and Ian have created over the last week and a half toward giving voters a stable, thoughtful alternative to the NDP,” said Bird.
“This party will be focused on the issues the NDP has neglected for far too long: the economy, healthcare, affordability, taxation and land rights. These are issues that shape the everyday lives of British Columbians.”
The group was among nine MLA’s to depart the Conservative caucus in recent weeks over frustrations with the leadership of Kerry-Lynne Findlay.
The new party is expected to hold a leadership vote prior to the Legislature returning on October 5th.
Milobar will act as the interim leader until a permanent party head is elected.
