The B.C. Government says construction has started on a new commercial vehicle inspection station on Highway 97 south of Prince George.
The $9.2 million construction contract was awarded to IDL Projects Inc. to rebuild the Red Rock Commercial Vehicle Inspection Station, which was destroyed in a fire in December 2024.
“Keeping unsafe commercial vehicles off the road is critical to protecting people and families who use our highways every day and to support the smooth movement of goods throughout northern B.C.,” said Minister of Transportation and Transit Mike Farnworth. “The newly rebuilt Red Rock Inspection Station will restore a critical facility and support the province’s economy and supply chains.”
Work to be done includes constructing a new commercial-vehicle inspection building, replacing the weigh scale building, and completing associated site servicing.
The project is anticipated to be completed in December 2027, and is not expected to impact traffic along Highway 97.
