P.G. Therapeutic Riding Association’s annual gala being held this weekend

The Prince George Therapeutic Riding Association is hosting its annual gala fundraiser tomorrow (Saturday).

The non-profit association, which has been in the community for 34 years, provides therapeutic and recreational horseback riding for kids and adults with disabilities.

Founder Barb Warkentein said their horseback riding has also helped people through mental health challenges.

“We had one story when on girl, her mother passed away, and the grandmother called us, she was about ten, and she started riding with us just to help her mentally.”

“She went on to feed the horses as part of a job, and now she works in the health district and is doing well.”

This year’s theme is Halloween, with prizes up for grabs for anyone dressing up, with the ticketed event at the Columbus Community Centre (7201 St. Lawrence Ave).
