Local Boy, Big Stage: Kadric Mujcin savours WHL Debut with PG Cougars

It was a dream come true for Kadric Mujcin who made his WHL debut with the Prince George Cougars in last night’s (Tuesday) 3-2 overtime loss to the Moose Jaw Warriors.

Mujcin is currently tearing up the B.C. Elite Hockey League’s U-18 division with 11 goals and 19 assists with the Cariboo Cougars.

After the game, the 16-year-old told MyPGNow.com it was good to get a taste of what major junior hockey is all about.

“First few shifts I had to adjust for sure, you know. I was happy to do it in PG, that was good, it’s special. Late heartbreaker, but you know, I felt pretty good,” said Mujcin.

Making the debut at home was something he won’t soon forget.

“One of the best days of my life, you know what I mean? Just to be able to do that in PG is really special.”

Being around the team right until the final cuts at the end of September was another valuable experience that also contributed to his hot start to the season with Cariboo.

“Just from September when I was here with them, just gaining all that experience, all the players here helped me out, and really made it easier to go down and be a leader. Just like I was in the shoes of some kids on my team and it was just, it helped out for sure just gaining experience from here.” said Mujcin.

Going forward, Mujcin believes playing with pace will serve him once he is able to land a full-time role at the junior level.

“Moving my feet and being smart, that’s like one of my biggest advantages. Hard on the forecheck for me and just finishing those hits, and then being smart, trying to be in good position because I’m not the biggest guy, so you know, I have to cover more ice.”

Mujcin was selected in the fifth round, 113th overall by the Cougars during the 2025 WHL Prospects Draft.

His older brother Decker also came up through the Cariboo system and played Junior A with the Spruce Grove Saints, Grande Prairie Storm and Portage Terriers.

His dad Mirsad is the coach of the under-15-triple-a Cariboo Cougars and also played in the WHL with the Regina Pats and Tri-City Americans from 1991-93.

The eldest Mujcin also spent time in the AJHL, ECHL and ACAC.

The Cougars continue a seven-game homestand Friday (7pm) and Saturday (6pm) against the Kelowna Rockets from CN Centre.

Cariboo is back in action November 14th and 15th against the Vancouver NE Chiefs from Kin 1.
