Native Fastball Championships receive help from City

As hosts of this year’s Canadian Native Fastball Championships, Prince George council is doing its part to ensure it runs smoothly.

The city will support the tournament by covering some essential costs, such as ball diamond and bleacher rentals, garbage/recycling bins, and portable toilets. The total support will cost $20,500.

In return, Mayor Lyn Hall says the tournament will be a huge economic driver.

“Hundreds of people visiting our city for a four or five day period. That means restaurants, hotels, campgrounds, stores, businesses are going to be reaping the benefits,” he says.

Hall wants the local economy and visitors to get the most out of this event, and is being as accommodating as possible.

“It’s just so important, and it really ties into what we were trying to do with the 2015 Canada Winter games and continue that momentum. This is just part of it for 2016.”

The tournament will be held sometime during July and/or August 2016.
