Local high school students will speak to war vets

A group of College Heights Secondary students is aiming to capture stories from the first two World Wars.

Curator of the Central B.C. Railway and Forestry Museum, Katherine Carlson says the students will be talking to local veterans shortly.

“I think this is a really good way for the youth to re-connect with elders, particularly with veterans to learn some of this history first hand. It’s not out of a textbook, it’s someone’s actual experience.”

Carlson says they are starting to project to reach out to ageing World War Two veterans, so they can capture a slice of local history while they still can.

She adds the project will also see some students travel overseas.

“They’re going to be visiting Europe looking at some of the battlefields in France from the first and second world war.”

The interviews will then be transcribed and present the information as an exhibit at the museum.

Carlson encourages all veterans to get involved. To do so, call 250-563-7351 or email: [email protected]
