Group seeking urban chicken approval

A flock of chicken enthusiasts will be presenting their urban henhouse ideas to council Monday.

“Poultry for PG” is hoping a bylaw amendment would allow 6 chickens per urban residence. The group says this would cut costs of eating healthy eggs and cut shipping emissions.

If allowed, Prince George would join a list of communities with backyard chicken. Prince Rupert and Vancouver have had them for years, and Smithers made its bylaw amendments in December.

The group received over 470 signatures on its online petition.

The group will present to Council Monday at 6 PM.
