University Professor to talk air quality in Prince George

The issue of air quality will be brought to the forefront on Saturday by a professor from Thompson Rivers University.

Department of Geology and Environmental Studies Professor Dr. MichaOl Metha is speaking at the Elder Citizens Recreation Association in Prince George beginning at 5 pm.

According to Metha, the environment and people are being greatly impacted by wood burning.

“Thousands of people die from COPD, Asthma and other illnesses related to poor quality air. In rural communities and places like Prince George where a lot of people burn wood for heating, there is an extra burden on top of that.”

Metha believes the city should stop wood burning collectively. “Wood burning is a 19th and 20th-century technology and is just an advancement on coal burning, we need to do better than that.”

The ECRA building is located at 1692 tenth avenue.

Between 5 and 7 million people worldwide die each year from air pollution.
