Cariboo Fire Centre issuing burning precautions

The Cariboo Fire Centre is asking residents to use caution on the topic of outdoor burning.

Fire Information Officer, Emily Epp says the warm winter has caused drier conditions much earlier.

“Throughout the Cariboo, we are seeing the grass and small shrub layers are drying out quite quickly at the lower elevations and the lower valley bottoms. We are seeing this due to the warmer temperatures, lack of precipitation lately.”

Anyone interested in open burning must be aware of changing weather conditions including days with lots of wind.

If you are planning a burn pile bigger than 2 meters high by 3 meters wide a burn registration number is required by calling 1-888-797-1717.

Up to date burning restrictions and current wildfire activity can be obtained by calling 1-888-FOREST or by logging on to http://www.bcwildfire.ca.
