Researchers at UNBC will continue its efforts looking for possible cancer and diabetes treatments.
The study will include a popular food according to Biochemistry Professor, Dr. Chow Lee.
“Chemical extraction of mushrooms, and equipment for purifying bio-active compounds along with the equipment to help us identify the compounds.”
Leed adds they have been hard at work dissecting the mushrooms. “We have collected over 100 species of mushrooms and have only assessed 30 so far and out of those we have found a lot of activities which is more than what we can handle.”
$400,000 was presented to them on Monday in the form of an infrastructure only grant.
Dr. Sarah Gray of the Northern Medical Program and Dr. Ranjana Bird will also be participating.
