Mongomo selected to CIS All-Rookie team

Guard Maria Mongomo of the UNBC Timberwolves women’s basketball team has been named to the CIS All-Rookie Team.

The honor comes a week after she was selected to the Canada West All-Rookie Team.

Mongomo is the first UNBC player in any sport to receive individual CIS recognition.

Despite playing in just 12 games, the English Language Studies student from Spain led all Canada West rookies in scoring with an average of 17.5 points per game.

In addition, she averaged seven rebounds and 2.5 steals a game.

The Las Palmas, Spain native is the first UNBC student to receive any kind of national award since women’s basketball player Jennifer Clyne was named a CCAA All-Canadian following the 2011-12 season, UNBC’s last before joining Canada West.
