It was not the start the Cariboo Cougars wanted for the 2016 BCMML finals.
Valley West Hawks jumped out to a 3-0 lead en route to a 4-1 victory over the Cougars on Friday.
Ben Evanish, Josh Bruce and Luka Burzan tallied for the Hawks in the opening frame.
Michael Farren also scored for VW while Josh Maser replied for the Cougars.
The Hawks are up 1-0 in the best of 3 final series and can clinch on Saturday when they play Cariboo at 6:30 from South Surrey.
