UNBC students and local chamber helping PG businesses be more green

While April is exam time for most UNBC students, a select few will not be writing tests thanks to an Air Quality Improvement project with the Chamber of Commerce in Prince George.

Project Coordinator, Barbara Otter says reducing a businesses carbon footprint is the main goal. “Businesses donate and volunteer their time and the students get the data they need in the form of utility bills, they do a carbon footprint analysis on each business.”

Lindsay Wells and Justin Serpa are preparing the analysis and Otter states they will give valuable feedback to the businesses. “They will get a complete carbon footprint analysis that will be of internationally recognized standards.”

Since 2014, the chamber has encouraged local businesses to become more energy efficient to help improve air quality, increase recycling and reduce waste.

The chamber will also have a summer student intern to implement those recommendations.

Some suggestions include how to reduce emissions, consumption rates and energy expenses.
