Police have learned Monday’s Valleyview Drive wildfire was caused by two young boys with matches. (previous story)
Prince George RCMP got a call to help the PG Fire / Rescue around 4:45 PM to the corner of Valleyview Drive and Mesa Drive.
Police began directing traffic and evacuating about 40 homes as the fire inched closer to the homes.
Evacuees weren’t allowed to return on foot until about 8:30 PM. As of 9:20 AM Tuesday, vehicles still aren’t allowed in the area.
Property damages were mostly limited to a shed and a patio at a View Place home. There was significant damage to vegetation and landscaping around the residences in the area, but no homes were lost.
RCMP learned two young boys aged 12 and 9 were trying to start a “camp fire” when the flames got out of control. Charges are not likely.
Fire crews will stay on scene Tuesday. Police ask that the public stays away from the area.
