The Northern BC Home and Garden Show is on for it’s 39th year

The Northern BC Home and Garden Show is on for its 39th year this weekend. Doors open at 3pm on Friday, April 22 at the Exhibition Grounds.

It’s sponsored by the Canadian Home Builders Association and executive officer Terry McConnachie says there’s something for everyone at this year’s event.

“It’s kind of a one stop shop. If you need help with a new roof, you need to landscape, flooring, you want to renovate, build a new home, find a new job, learn how to garden. There’s a food court – mini donuts while you’re doing all of this – huge door prize that’s free to enter. There’s just a lot going on this year.”

On top of all of this, there will be a silent auction of birdhouses built by local businesses in Kin III. All proceeds from the auction go to the Prince George Naturalists Club.

If you’re looking for a new backyard distraction for the kids, you may want to keep an eye on the outdoor area where McConnachie says a favourite event from last year is returning.

“We’re gonna have builders in a competition – Kutthroat Construction – building playhouses. So, really cool homes for small people! You’ll be able to to bid on them before the show ends on Sunday.”

All proceeds from the sale of the playhouses will go to chosen charities BC Children’s Hospital, Parkinson Society of BC and the YMCA of Northern BC.

And don’t forget the ugly stove contest!

McConnachie says there’s an exciting new section to the Home Show as well. Work BC’s Find Your Fit Tour is coming to the Trades Pavilion.

“It’s targeted at youth as young as Gr. 6 all the way to adults that are perhaps finding themselves looking into a career change,” says McConnachie. “They want to know what trades are out there, what are the options, where are the jobs going to be and how can I pay for this training.”

The Trades Pavilion will be located in Kin III.

The show runs until 4pm on Sunday and you’ve still got a chance to pick up advance tickets for just $5 at Rona, Central Builders and the Northern. Advance tickets are only available until tomorrow.
