REAPS’ Annual City Wide Spring Clean up is tomorrow!

Have you signed up for the annual City Wide Spring Clean Up yet? The event is this Sunday and REAPS executive director Terri McClymont says they already have 4400 confirmed participants but there’s always room for more.

“I really encourage people to get out there and help pitch in,” she says. “Even walk around your neighbourhood and grab some bags. It’s a fun day to get out there and just see what’s out there and meet your neighbours!”

Registration is easy – you can call or email REAPS.

“They can register with us – just email [email protected],” says McClymont. “Give me your location, the number of people in your party, how many bags and gloves you would like and we’ll put a package together for you.”

REAPS is staying open late to make picking up your supplies more convenient. They’re open today from noon until 6pm.

If you call McClymont at 250-561-7327, she’ll get you all set up and let you in on a little secret about the disposal locations.

“There are 10 bin locations around town for people to pitch in, pick up some garbage, help to clean up the streets, the boulevards, the parks the trails. Three special locations will have free coffee so…if you register with me, I’ll tell you where the free coffee is.”

McClymont says participants can pick the area they’d like to spruce up but there are a few areas that still need volunteers.

“There’s a lot of people who are picking up garbage in their neighbourhoods. We still need some TLC happening along Highway 97 from the Nechako River all the way to CNC.”

Ospika is also in need of a couple of clean up crews. The areas between 15th and 22nd Avenues and from Tyner to Westwood Elementary are still unclaimed.

If free coffee and feeling good about cleaning up the neighbourhood aren’t enough of an incentive, McClymont says there are other prizes available. All you have to do is take a photo with the trash you collect and post it on the event page.

“[You’ll get] a chance to win a $50 gift card from Cooper Pig and if you post it on the Pine Centre Mall, they have two gift certificates there.”
