The Prince George Sports Hall of Fame welcomed four outstanding members to it’s group during its 11th Annual Induction Dinner on Saturday.
The 2014-2015 class included Orville Claffey, Nino Fabbro, Audrey Foster and the late Charlie Ghostkeeper.
Foster was recognized in the Builder/Administrator category for her contributions to the local baseball scene, including a 19 year run with the Nechako Little League where she assumed the role of president.
She adds her time with the league is probably her most fondest memory.
“The number of volunteers we had with the Nechako Little League was outstanding and is something I am very proud of, they just came out of the wood work.”
Foster’s involvement with the league started back in the 70’s as a concession worker and also founded the Challenger Baseball League back in 1993 for disabled people.
She also spearheaded over 400 members to host the Canadian Little League Championship in 1996.
Another person with strong ties to the diamond was Nino Fabbro who was recognized as a Coach/Builder.
After playing fastball for many years he joined the executive of the Spruce City Men’s Fastball Association and was eventually named president and brought the Canadian Junior Men’s Championships to the city in 1995.
Fabbro says one memory stands out during his time at the ball diamond.
“I was coaching the junior team at the time and we had a Senior A Fastball team come in from Grande Prairie and we ended up beating them in the finals and that was a big win for us.”
It also means a ton to Fabbro to be inducted into the same class as Charlie Ghostkeeper.
“Charlie and I go back a long way and to be inducted with him is fantastic. I also played hockey against Orv and he was a great player that Audrey and I have known since I moved here.”
The SHOF also recognized 12 youth athletes during the banquet.
