Prince George’s multi-unit housing starts exploded in April at 110.
The city broke ground on 126 new homes last month which includes 16 in the single detached category.
Taylor Pardy with the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation believes single home starts should remain steady for a while. “We forecast 145 new starts in 2016 and 160 starts in 2017 according to the 2014-15 predictions that we have”
Pardy adds the latest numbers compare favourably with a similar sized city like Kamloops which had 46 single and 117 multi-unit starts last month.
At this time last year, Prince George only had total 36 housing starts.
The major spike in multi-family dwellings can be attributed to a major condominium project getting underway.
