A Prince George woman is bringing the Nechako Valley Exhibition to Supreme Court for an accident that took place at the 2015 fall fair.
The incident saw a horse get spooked while being guided behind the bleachers by its owner. The horse ran into the bleachers overturning them and sending the spectators seated on them flying forward.
Susan Barrio was knocked unconscious and hospitalized. The civil claim states she suffered a concussion, vision problems, hip injury and various bruises and contusions. As a result she has had “numerous” visits to physicians, therapy assessments and medication.
She is seeking damages for loss of mobility, past and future loss income and earning capacity, cost of medication and rehab as well as medical expenses and pain and suffering. An exact dollar figure is not indicated.
The lawsuit claims the Exhibition Society was negligent in its design, construction and maintenance of the fairgrounds.
The horse’s owner, Serine Merino, is also named in the lawsuit for failing to properly supervise and keep hold of the horse.
The Nechako Valley Exhibition has 21 days to file a response.
Barrio did not respond to a request for comment.
