Prince George motorists to pay more at the pump

It might be a wise idea to fill up your vehicle this weekend as gas prices are expected to rise in Prince George.

Senior Petroleum Analyst with Gasbuddy.com, Dan McTeague says most gas stations in the city are barely breaking even due to the lower prices.

“If you’re a gas station owner in PG you’re looking at prices in the range of 96 cents a litre just to buy the gas and I’m looking at prices around 97.9, plus if someone uses a credit card you’re looking at zero profit margins so I am suspecting we will see an 8 cent increase.”

The increase is expected to take place either Monday or Tuesday and is not related to the recent wildfire in Fort McMurray.

However, gas prices should be about 8 cents less this summer compared to last year.

“I think we are looking at a lot of volatility here, I don’t think we will reach the prices we did last year and the more the product is on stream we will save a lot more than we did last year. Looking at the Gasbuddy sites we are looking at paying 8 cents a litre less on average which should continue throughout the summer.”

The lowest price in Prince George is Costco at 94.9 cents a litre.

Despite the jump at the pumps, Prince George will continue to have the lowest gas prices in BC.
