Blood donors needed before Canada Day

Canadian Blood Services is seeking blood donors ahead of Canada Day.

Spokesperson Marcelo Dominguez says there are several open appointments due to the holiday.

“There’s about 200 open appointments in Prince George, and essentially with the holiday falling mid-week this year we’re seeing fewer appointments booked, and a higher number of cancellations around Canada Day. So it’s just making it particularly challenging because many regular donors are planning to take an extra long weekend.”

Dominguez says they’re particularly looking for those with type O and A blood.

He says blood has a short shelf life, and needs to be replaced regularly, so they’d like to remind people to donate especially during the summer when there are more car collisions.
