Prince George Inner City Boxer Kenny Lally is walking away from the sport.
The 26-year old announced via Facebook on Tuesday he will skip the final Olympic Qualifying event in Baku, Azerbaijan later this month.
The outcome of his last fight put a very sour taste in his mouth and played a big role in his decision.
“What really made my decision the most is when I flew down to Argentina and everybody knew that I beat Venezuela and for them to just take it away from me like that especially with all the work I put in moving to Montreal for two months. I am just sick and tired of the politics.”
Some gear changes and looking at the bigger picture made things that much easier for Lally.
“Having no headgear anymore and some of the cuts that are happening now and even though I am funded by the government you can’t pay me enough to get back in there. I do not want to be a vegetable by the time I am 30, I have had 126 fights and don’t want to be punched anymore.”
Lally will have a farewell fight in Prince George slated for November.
The opponent and venue have not been determined but an announcement is expected in September.
Lally is an 11-time provincial champion and 7-time national champion.
Another one of his career highlights came last summer at the 2015 Pan-am Games in Toronto capturing the bronze medal in the 56-Kilogram Division.
