Cougars have 8-game homestand in November

The Prince George Cougars will start their 2014-15 WHL regular season in Portland for the second consecutive year. The Cougars schedule begins when they visit the Winterhawks on Saturday, September 20th and will also play the next night, September 21st in Tri-City. The Cats home openers will be the following weekend, Sept 26th and 27th against the Kelowna Rockets.

–The Cougars longest homestand will be eight games in November.

–The Cats will host their annual Teddy Bear Toss game on Wednesday, December 9th against the Saskatoon Blades.

–The Cougars longest road trips are just 5 games in length; the first begins in late December and the other will start February 9th.

–The Cats busiest month will be in January with a total of 15 games. They also play 11 games each in October, November and December, 9 in March and 5 in September.

–Of the 36 PG home games, 10 are on Saturdays and another 10 are set for Wednesdays. They also play at CN Centre 9 times on Fridays, 6 on Tuesdays and once on Sunday (November 2nd against Kamloops).

–Every second season, the Cougars host the Saskatchewan and Manitoba-based teams. The Cougars will entertain Swift Current on September 30th, Brandon on October 22nd, Regina on November 26th, Prince Albert on December 3rd, Saskatoon on December 9th and Moose Jaw on February 21st.

–The Cougars final three regular season games are against the Blazers: March 18th and 20th at CN Centre and March 21st in Kamloops.

–The majority of WHL regular-season games will be played on weekends. Of the 792 total games, 568 are scheduled for the weekend, with 235 to be played on a Friday, 260 on a Saturday and 73 on a Sunday. Additionally, 11 weekday games occur on various holidays throughout the season, meaning 73% of the schedule is played on a weekend or non-school days. During the week, Wednesday night has 118 matches scheduled, 86 games will be played on Tuesday, 11 games on Monday, and nine contests will be played on Thursday.

–The 792 game regular season concludes on Sunday, March 22nd, with the 2015 WHL Playoffs beginning on Friday, March 27th.

–44 players, including Jansen Harkins of the Prince George Cougars, have been invited to attend Canada’s National Men’s Summer Under-18 Team selection camp that will be held from Aug. 2-5 in Calgary. 22 players will be chosen to play for Canada at the U18 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Cup Aug 11-16 in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. The camp roster of 44 includes 18 players from the WHL. Canada has won the summer under-18 tournament six consecutive years and nine of the last 10.
