Tackling HIV and Hepatitis C is a top priority for Northern Health.
The organization is providing an additional $180,000 as part of a Request for Proposal program with community partners and First Nations health organizations.
Regional Director of Chronic Diseases, Ciro Panessa says both diseases have become a major issue in BC.
“HIV and Hepatitis are both present in the province as a whole and hear in the north, overall our ability to care and treat those living with the diseases had definitely improved over the years.”
Proposals are due by July 3rd with services beginning on October 1st.
They are looking for proposals that will:
-Prevent and reduce the risk of HIV and Hepatitis C transmission
– Demonstrate partnerships that will enable quick and easy access to testing
– Assist people who are living with both diseases, including supports of those who choose to start and maintain treatment
Northern Health currently has four service providers who deliver programs in Prince George and satellite services in Smithers and Fort St John.
