“Open the Doors” fighting for free Adult Basic Education

With the Province handing back $25 million dollars to BC school boards, there are some people that would like to see some of that go towards free adult basic education.

The “Open the Doors” campaign is fighting for mature students, who now pay $1600 a semester to get their high school diplomas.

The program used to be free, and campaign spokesperson Dr. George Davison says there’s been a decline ever since the fee was put in place.

“When the funding is cut or when barriers to enrolment are put in place, students don’t really go much further or institutions having to put in supports for them which takes away from other programming,” he says.
