City begins construction of multiple amenities at Cpl. Darren Fitzpatrick Bravery Park

Big changes are coming to Cpl. Darren Fitzpatrick Bravery Park in the Hart.

“Today’s event was the official sod-turning and flag raising at the park,” says mayor Lyn Hall. “It really marks the start of the construction of a new multi-use facility. The one that’s been generating the most discussion is the skateboard park – lots of interest in that.”

Hall says the park is a focal point of the community.

“It was really made clear to us that one of the most important things was to provide a skateboard park for the young folks in the Hart area. There’s been a lot of people working on that park for a number of years.”

But the skate park isn’t the only improvement coming to the park.

“Throughout the next little while, we’re going to see a fenced dog park, an expansion of the existing playground, some landscaping around the exterior of the park and a picnic and barbecue area.”

Most of the construction will be completed over the summer and Hall says the skate park should be open by the fall.

A new flagpole has also been built. At today’s event, Mayor Hall joined members of the Fitzpatrick family to raise the park’s first Canadian flag.
