Prince George and BC Peace seeing a swath of rain

The endless sloth of rain that has wreaked havoc on Prince George and the BC Peace Region is expected to let up on Thursday.

However, the rain has already caused enough damage closing Highway 97 at the Pine Pass in both directions.

Alyssa Charbonneau with Environment Canada says Prince George’s rain totals are pretty much on par with what was predicted.

“The total as of Thursday morning is just under 33 millimetres, so for a storm total that is getting closer for what the rain amount was.”

That’s nothing compared to some of the totals being recorded in the Peace.

“The rain is expected to finally ease off in the BC Peace Region. Over the past two days, Chetwynd has recorded about 130 millimetres of rain.”

At least one bridge has been washed out and 39 homes are evacuated as Dawson Creek continues to get hammered by rain and battle flooding.

The northern Alberta system is expected to die off for both regions sometime Thursday evening.
