Back strain injuries in BC are trending downward.
WorkSafe BC Director of Media Relations, Scott McCloy says while the numbers are still high, a steady decline has taken place over the past decade.
“We have seen a drop in soft tissue back strain injuries over the past 10-15 years. In 2001, the number of back strains as a percentage of all claims was over 25%, today that percentage is 23%.”
McCloy adds it’s also safe to assume the number of workdays missed has also decreased. “In 2005, there were 580,000 days lost due to back strains by workers. In 2014, it fell to 470,000 which is a drop of 110,000 days lost.”
Back strain claims in BC skyrocketed to $576 Million dollars since 2010.
They are responsible for 23% of all injury claims in the province.
