Prince George’s jobless rate jumps to 7.7%

The June job numbers for Prince George have been released by Stats Canada.

Analyst, Andrew Fields says the city’s jobless rate saw a slight increase. “In Prince George, the unemployment rate was 7.7% in June 2016 which is up from the 7.4% mark over last June.”

However, the number of people currently employed did go up.

“The number of people employed did go up a little bit which saw 46,800 people employed. That is up from the 46,100 people working at this time last year.”

BC’s unemployment rate is 5.9% which is the lowest in Canada.

Employment has grown by 70,000 over the past year in the province which equates to a jump of 3.6% which leads all provinces.

This trumps Canada’s job growth of 0.6% in the past year.

The national unemployment rate is 6.8%.
