Church & City of PG sued over unexpected fireworks show

A local church and City of Prince George is being sued by a Burns Lake woman for an unexpected fireworks display.

Patricia Pedersen alleges she was walking her dogs near the Lakewood Alliance Church on October 10th 2015 around 9:30pm, when a fireworks show set off by the church spooked her dogs.

Pedersen says her two dogs bolted while she was holding their leash, causing her to fall to the ground. She claims she experienced a fracture of the left humerus, a tendon tear, skull injury and various contusions – causing her pain, suffering, loss of enjoyment of life, loss of housekeeping capacity and sleeplessness.

The lawsuit claims the event organizer failed to conduct an inspection of the park near the church to give proper warning to anyone in it.

“They knew or ought to have known that the sound of fireworks likely would cause animals in the vicinity to react suddenly and violently.” the claim reads, filed June 29th

The City of Prince George is named in the lawsuit because Pedersen alleges the October 10th fireworks show received only a verbal approval from City staff, which also contributed to the lack of notice given to the neighborhood.

Pedersen is seeking damages and costs.

Neither the church or City has filed a response. None of the above allegations have been proved in court.
