Child Development Centre of Prince George hit by thieves

The Child Development Centre of Prince George has been hit by thieves.

Just after midnight on Friday, they reportedly cut a chain link fence and smashed a security light at the Centre on Strathcona.

Executive Director Darrell Roze says the thieves then dismantled and stole and large portable garage in the yard.

“The portable garage is one of the ones you get from Costco… and we had it set up just to provide some shade for the children on the playground and I guess someone decided they wanted it more than the children deserved to have it.”

He says strangely enough, they also stole a latch off one of the centres gates.

“It’s really disappointing. I mean we are a charity, we are here for children and these types of thefts of just stealing from children.”

“We provide services to many of the communities most vulnerable children, the children who have substantial special needs and developmental delays and this just takes resources away from the services we can provide.”

Roze says he suspects it was somebody nearby that spotted the canvas garage and decided to steal it, and is asking the community to keep their eyes open for their stolen property.

Anyone with information about the theft can call the Child Development centre at 250.562.7168
