The first major investment in the Ancient Forest/Chun T’oh Wudujut since it was designated a Class A provincial park last March has been announced.
The province is putting up one million dollars for a new intersection on Highway 16 at the site.
“The designation of this new provincial park was the result of unprecedented cooperation and effort by the Lheidli First Nations, the Caeldonia Ramblers Hiking society and many passionate community volunteers and organizations including in McBride and the Robson Valley,” said MLA Shirley Bond is a media release
“These road improvements will complement our efforts to showcase some of the largest old growth cedars to the world and ensure that vehicle access is safer and more efficient.”
The site saw more than 20,000 visits in 2015.
The Province says they will work with the federal government to consider Ancient Forest for a UNESCO World Heritage Site nomination.
