Hazmat crews have reopened 13th between Central and Johnson after discovering an unknown substance.
RCMP Corporal Craig Douglass says buckets full of liquid were left in an alleyway off 13th, prompting evacuations.
He says they haven’t identified the substance, but have taken it to be disposed of.
“We know that what was supposed to be in the container was a base, and what was in the container was an acid. So we know it’s not what was supposed to be in the container, we don’t know where it came from or anything like that but we are certainly open to hearing any information the public may have.”
Douglass says they don’t suspect any malicious intent, but says if it was just a case of illegal dumping – it created a major headache for local residents, businesses and first responders.
