Manning the Flyers back end

The Philadelphia Flyers avoided arbitration with Brandon Manning by signing the 26-year-old defenceman from Prince George to a two-year, $1.95 million contract.

Media reports indicate that Manning will receive an $850,000 contract with a $100,000 signing bonus in Year 1 plus a salary of $1 million in the second year.

Manning scored his first NHL goal and added six assists in 56 regular season games with the Flyers, his first full year in the league. He added one assist in six playoff games.

Over parts of four seasons with the Flyers, Manning has 12 points (1g-11a) in 77 career games.

He was signed by Philadelphia as a free agent in November of 2010 after spending three seasons with the Chilliwack Bruins of the WHL and one season with the Prince George Spruce Kings.

Manning will be one of the instructors at the Spruce Kings summer hockey school next month.
