The BX Pub Bandits whipped the understaffed three-time champion Northland Nissan Assault 16-7 in the opening game of the PG Senior Lacrosse League playoffs. Damon Calfa had eight goals and three assists while his teammate Drew Doig added five goals and one assist. Game two in their best of five semi-final will be played Monday at 8pm at Kin 1.

–Nine Prince George Youth Soccer teams are competing at the Provincials this week on the Lower Mainland. The U-18 Girls (Timberwolves) are in the “A” Division in Burnaby while the other eight teams are on the field at the “B” Cup. The U14 and U15 girls are in Chilliwack while the U13, 14, 15, 16 and 18 boys are participating in Richmond.

–Stock car racing resumes Saturday night at PGARA with the Inland Kenworth Hornets, Chieftain Auto Parts Mini Stocks, Richmond Steel Street Stocks and King of the Hill. Time trials start at 6pm with the races to begin an hour later.

–Edmonton Oil Kings coach Derek Laxdal has accepted the job of head coach with the AHL champion Texas Stars. Laxdal will take over from Willie Desjardins (who is now coach of the Canucks).

–There will be 10 WHL teams that will start the season with a new coach.

–The Prince George Cougars are looking for billet families for the 2014-2015 season. Billet families are primarily responsible for housing and feeding players while they are in Prince George during the hockey season. In exchange, families will be compensated financially, and with tickets.
