The job vacancy rate for the Cariboo region, which includes Prince George, sits at 2.3% according to Stats Canada.
That equates to over 1,480 open positions with the vast majority tied to one sector, according to Stats Canada Analyst, Myriam Hazel.
“There were 620 vacancies in the sales and service occupation, 190 in trades, and transport along with 175 in health occupations followed by 90 in management.”
British Columbia recorded the second highest job vacancy rate in Canada during the first quarter of 2016 at 2.9%.
Job vacancy rates were above average in agriculture, forestry, fishing, and hunting with a rate of 4.8%.
The Cariboo also did very well in the wage portion of the survey with an average wage of $19.75 per hour.
That outpaces the provincial average of $19.30 per hour and is slightly behind the national figure of $19.95 per hour.
