Sun Devils playoff chances sunk by Invaders

It was not the 2016 Ramada World Baseball Challenge the Kamloops Sun Devils were hoping for.

They fell to 0-5 and out of medal round contention after dropping a 12-2 decision to the Roswell Invaders on Wednesday.

After playing to a 2-2 tie in the first two innings the Invaders would explode for a 6 run third inning which was highlighted by a 2 run home run from Cody Bishop, his third of the tournament making it an 8-2 game.

Roswell would pad its lead with four more on the top of the 7th thanks to RBI doubles from Joey Miller and Bobby Webb.

Miller says the team’s approach to the plate is simple. “Our main objective when we are in the batter’s box is about getting a good pitch to hit if were up there free swinging with no approach and no good pitches to hit you’re not going to be successful.”

Sundevils Pitcher, Austin Penner says it’s hard to stay ahead against such a tough battling lineup. “They have some ex-pro guys and I just finished four years of college baseball and I have not seen any hitters as good as they are.”

Penner took the loss on the mound giving up 9 hits and 5 earned runs over 5 1/3 innings.

Alex Dandridge was the winning pitcher for the Invaders going 5 innings giving up 2 earned runs on just 5 hits.

Kamloops plays their last game of the tournament against Team Japan tonight at 8PM while Roswell is back in action on Friday against the Thurston County Senators.
