You’ve got three fall fairs to visit this weekend. Hixon is holding a one day event on Saturday, the Nechako Valley Exhibition opens tomorrow and the BC Northern Exhibition is already underway.
The Nechako Valley Exhibition (also known as the Vanderhoof Fall Fair) is celebrating a special anniversary this year.
“It’s our 50 years of the Vanderhoof Fall Fair,” says NVE co-chair Richard Wurth. “We have tons of new things added for the weekend and special events. Saturday night, Fountain Tire has sponsored a movie night so they’re playing the new Jungle Book. We have roping and team penning and cutting and sorting – all new events this year.”
The Grand Opening event starts at 6pm on Friday and will be followed by Bull-o-rama and a performance by local band Buck Fever.
Wurth says they’ve got high hopes for the historic event.
“We hope that it’ll be the best one that we’ve ever had in the 50 years and the weather’s going to be perfect so we hope that everyone comes out. The numbers have been climbing every year and the community and surrounding communities have been really good to us.”
If you’re an adrenaline junkie, the BCNE is where it’s at.
“We have brand new rides from West Coast amusements,” says BCNE General Manager Candie Charalambidis. “They have more than doubled in size so they’re huge with new exciting flashy rides.”
The midway is open until 11 pm tonight and midnight on both Friday and Saturday. The rides close down at 6 pm on Sunday.
Charalambidis says the trick riders, who perform today at 6 pm and tomorrow at 12:30, 3:30 and 6 pm on Friday, are not to be missed at the rodeo grounds.
The Carver Kings will be showcasing their skills in front of the Agriplex.
“They’re carving the whole duration of the Fair during the day. They have live auctions every day at 5 o’clock where you can bid on their work.”
The rode events take place Saturday and Sunday from 12-6pm. There’s a main stage with live entertainment, Kin 1 is hosting vendors and live music and Kin 2 is home to the home arts and horticulture displays.
The much anticipated heavy horse pull is at the Agriplex from 12:30 until 6 pm on Saturday.
And if you’re an early bird, you can get gate admission for just $2 before 10 am.
