UPDATE: Potential bomb found in Cottonwood Island Park

There is an very heavy police presence around Cottonwood Island Park.

RCMP say they descended on the area at 10:30am and arrested a local 36 year old man for breach of probation, resist arrest and possession of an explosive device.

In a media release Sgt. Troy Durand says the man has been removed from the area; however the potential explosive device remains in the Cottonwood Park area under police surveillance. The RCMP bomb disposal unit out of the Lower Mainland is en route to assess and dispose of the device.

Durand says the man is known to police and has been charged with a similar incident in the past.

Ranjit Gill with the Railway and Forestry Museum says officers arrived at the Museum about 10:30am, and told everyone to stay inside.

30 minutes later, officers gave the museum the all-clear but told her a device was found in the parking lot and that they were calling in the bomb disposal unit to take a look.

The entire area has been cordoned off from Foley Cres to the overpass on River Road, including the boat launch. The railway museum remains open.
