Bear Lake man dies in Ultra-Light plane crash

A Bear Lake man lost his life in an Ultra-Light plane crash this weekend.

On Saturday just before 11am, Mackenzie RCMP received a report of a small yellow plane with floats that appeared to be falling to the earth uncontrollably. Police then confirmed that an aircraft matching that description had taken off from Mackenzie Airport that morning.

A fleet of search aircraft from BC CASARA, Canadian Forces Comox and Conifex was activated by the RCMP alongside Mackenzie Search and Rescue.

The crash site was located at about 3pm, 10-15km north of Mackenzie.

The 70 year old pilot was the only person onboard the two seater home built plane and was found deceased at the scene. The man’s name is not being released at this time.
