Wet bounce puts a damper on strong T-Wolves effort

Mother nature decided to hang in the background during the first half for the UNBC Timberwolves men’s soccer team.

But she made her prescience felt in the second half.

Cody Fransen booted home a muffed save from T-Wolves goalkeeper Mitch MacFarlane in the 74th minute to propel the Trinity Western Spartans to a 2-1 win over UNBC at NCSSL Field on Friday.

The Timberwolves brought the home crowd to its feet just 14 minutes in after Cheona Edzerza zipped one past TWU goaltender Andrew Hickes for a 1-0 advantage.

Spartans cranked up the pressure on a young Timberwolves team which featured freshmen Owen Stewart and Jonas Smith who played quite well in their CIS debut.

Elijah Adekugbe tied things up in the 25th minute to even the game at 1-1 at half-time.

UNBC had a flurry of chances late from Tofa Fakunle, James Stephens and Stewart but were unable to solve Hicks before the final whistle.

Gordan Hall was forced to miss the opener for the Timberwolves due to a red card sustained at the end of last season.

Both teams play again on Saturday at 7PM from the NCSSL fields in Prince George.
