ICBC urging drivers to take care out there during Labour day long-weekend

The Labour Day long weekend marks the unofficial end of summer in B.C.

There will be no shortage of vehicles on provincial roads and highways.

Doug MacDonald with ICBC believes a few helpful tips can make your trip a success.

“Plan a pre-trip inspection of your car, make sure your oil is good, wipers and lights are working well so that your vehicle is maintained properly. Another tip would be to plan your route out and let your family know where you are going to be and when you will be there so they know when to expect you.”

Over the Labour Day long weekend, 5 people are killed and 520 are injured from over 2,000 crashes province-wide.

In the North Central Region, 16 people sustained injuries in 120 crashes during this time.

MacDonald adds motorists should allow two seconds of following distance between vehicles on prime road conditions and at least three seconds on high-speed roads.
