Alberta man arrested after officers assaulted near McBride

An Alberta man faces numerous charges after police officers were assaulted over the weekend in McBride.

RCMP say on Saturday an officer attempted to pull over a gold Chevrolet Blazer that was speeding on Highway 16, but the vehicle then took off and turned onto a gravel road east of McBride.

The vehicle did several donuts before driving toward the officer’s parked vehicle and narrowly missing it.

The Blazer then continued onto a dead end street, and the male driver resisted arrest and assaulted two officers before a bystander helped get the man into custody.

The man was taken to a medical clinic and committed under the Mental Health Act for further assessment, as it appeared he was suffering from a mental health episode.

He faces charges of resisting arrest, assaulting a police officer, and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.
