Thrilling opener ends in a tie

Well it wasn’t quite the result they were looking but there were plenty of positives for the Prince George Spruce Kings earning a 2-2 tie on Friday against the Merritt Centennials.

Brett Mennear put Prince George on the board at 8:25 of the first on the power-play to make it 1-0.

Nick Fidanza evened things up for Merritt with 14 seconds remaining in the opening frame.

Play would open up in the second as the Spruce Kings outshot the Centennials 12-8 in the middle frame.

Jamie Huber lit the lamp for the first time in his BCHL career for Prince George.

Merritt would answer back once again late in the period this time off the stick of Brett Jewell.

Both teams would exchange chances in the third period and overtime but Spruce Kings goaltender Stefan Woring and Merritt puck stopper Jacob Burger shut the door.

Woring made his Spruce Kings debut after being acquired from the Powell River Kings in the Adam Brubacher deal last winter recording 33 saves.

Prince George welcomes the Penticton Vees to the RMCA on Saturday at 7PM.
