Weekend scorcher ahead for PG

The heat is on in Prince George.

This weekend, Environment Canada is forecasting highs in the 30s, including 33 degrees on Saturday.

Meteorologist Allan Coldwells says these temperatures are well above average.

“Our normals for this time of year actually are only about 23, 24 degrees; so temperatures eight to maybe as much as ten degrees above normal is getting to be relatively significant. It’s not unheard of, but it’s been a couple years since we’ve had temperatures this high.”

Coldwells says right now there’s a strong ridge of high pressure over western Canada that is bringing warm, dry air up from the southern States.

He says the heat will last into early next week, but there’s a chance it could last until much later in the week as well.
