2015 Canada Winter Games taken to court over unpaid hotel bills

A local hotel is taking the Prince George Canada Winter Games Society to court over tens of thousands of dollars in unpaid hotel fees.

Esther’s Inn filed a civil claim in Supreme Court this week alleging the Host Society still owes $77,968 on its bill.

The claim states the Host Society reserved 93 rooms for 19 days between February 11th – March 2nd 2015. It goes on to say the hotel also provided breakfast buffet and lounge service for some of the days. Additional rooms were also provided for delegates and Winter Games referees between February 6th and 12th.

Across five invoices after tax and corrections, the Host Society was billed a total of $276,689 according to the lawsuit.

However the hotel says just four payments were made totalling $198,720. The claims states the deadline for payment was March 15th 2015, and that “despite multiple demands” the Host Society “has failed to pay the amount owing.”

Further complicating things, the Host Society officially dissolved on Monday, committing hundreds of thousands of dollars to the Northern BC Community Sport Development Society and Pacific Sport Northern BC. It’s not clear right now who can be held responsible now that the no longer Host Society exists.

When contacted for comment, Host Society Chair Anthony Everett was surprised by the news and unable to offer any comment until he saw the claim himself.
