Prince George RCMP kept busy during school zone blitz

359 violations and charges were recorded by the Prince George RCMP after their 10-day school zone blitz.

From September 6th to 16th police visited 40 different schools in the city.

183 residents were caught speeding in a school zone with the fastest being clocked at 84 kilometres per hour.

In addition, the PG RCMP issued the following tickets;

· 38 Speed in Playground Zone;
· 55 Speed Above Posted Limit (near school zones, but not in them);
· 6 Excessive Speeding resulting in 6 vehicles Impounded for 7 days.
· 9 Fail to Wear Seat Belts;
· 9 Use of Prohibited Devices;
· 7 Intersection Related violations;
· 2 – 24 hour Suspensions for Alcohol;
· 1 – 24 hour Suspension for Drugs;
· 1 Criminal Code Impaired Driving charge;
· 48 other various violations.

In addition to the enforcement campaign, the RCMP’s Community Policing Section were helping to slow down drivers too.

Twenty-three volunteers from the Citizens on Patrol Program conducted Speed Watch throughout ten different school zones over the first nine days of school this month. Volunteers observed approximately 1,122 vehicles and found over 114 motorists driving over the posted thirty kilometre per hour school zone.
